The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a minister following his screening at plenary.
Darma was recently nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to replace Ahmed Musa Dangiwa as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
During the screening, Darma addressed lawmakers’ concerns on Nigeria’s housing deficit and urban renewal challenges, outlining plans to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to meet government targets in the sector.
He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts between federal and state authorities, as well as private sector participation, to expand access to affordable housing and improve urban infrastructure.
Darma, who holds two doctoral degrees, previously served as Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, where he oversaw initiatives focused on human capital development in the oil and gas sector.
His confirmation comes as the Federal Government seeks to accelerate reforms and investments aimed at addressing the country’s housing shortfall and improving living conditions in urban centres.
