Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu has appointed Nwakuche Ndidi as the Acting Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, effective December 15, 2024. He succeeds Haliru Nababa, who had served since February 2021.
Nwakuche Ndidi, born on November 26, 1966, in Oguta, Imo State, previously served as Deputy Controller-General in charge of Training and Staff Development. A Fellow of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies and a Member of the Federal Republic honoree, he brings extensive experience to his new role.
The Nigerian Correctional Service currently manages over 77,849 inmates, with 69% awaiting trial and 3,413 on death row. The service faces challenges such as overcrowding and delays in the judicial process, which Ndidi is expected to address during his tenure.
