President Bola Tinubu has extended his warm congratulations to Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), on the occasion of her birthday.
The President rejoiced with the devoted public servant, who began her career as a broadcaster with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) before being elected to the House of Representatives in 2003, 2007, and 2011.
Their professional relationship is of long standing, with both figures having deep political roots in Lagos State. Dabiri-Erewa was first appointed to lead NIDCOM in 2019, and following his inauguration, President Tinubu reappointed her to the role in 2023, affirming his confidence in her leadership.
In his message, President Tinubu affirmed that the NIDCOM Chairperson has demonstrated an exceptional love for the country and humanity, consistently placing the welfare of the underprivileged at the centre of her work over many years.
The President noted the passion, diligence, and foresight that Dabiri-Erewa brings to her work as a journalist, lawmaker, and chief executive. He highlighted her historic roles in pursuing social justice for Nigerians at home and abroad.
President Tinubu also acknowledged her patriotic efforts in attracting Diaspora talents to contribute to the country’s development, particularly in the critical sectors of education, health, and sports. Under her leadership, NIDCOM has been instrumental in evacuating Nigerians in distress abroad, championing the National Diaspora Day, and fostering pivotal investment initiatives like the Nigerians in Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS). The President affirmed that her numerous awards and recognition over the years are well-deserved.
The President wished her a happy birthday and continued success in her service to the nation.
Mrs Dabiri-Erewa was chairman of the House Committee on Media & Publicity and chaired the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs.
