The Presidency has moved to correct what it described as “misleading narratives” surrounding recent cabinet changes, stating that former Finance Minister Wale Edun and Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa voluntarily resigned their positions.
In a statement issued from the State House, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga stressed that both exits were initiated by the ministers themselves, countering speculation that they had been removed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to the statement, Edun formally submitted his resignation citing health concerns, doing so shortly before the President announced a successor. The former minister, who marked his 70th birthday earlier this week, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, noting that his tenure aligned with the administration’s broader reform agenda.
Dangiwa was said to have followed a similar path, tendering his resignation and thanking the President for the chance to contribute to governance at the federal level.
Before his departure, Edun held a private meeting with Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where both men reportedly reviewed key policy efforts and the trajectory of ongoing economic reforms. He is expected to return to private sector engagements after leaving office.
The Presidency acknowledged the roles played by both outgoing ministers in advancing fiscal and housing sector initiatives, describing their contributions as integral to the administration’s reform drive.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Finance Minister, Taiwo Oyedele, has been tasked with sustaining the momentum of existing policies while sharpening fiscal discipline and pursuing innovative economic strategies.
