The Technology Incubation Centre (TIC), Aba, has hosted a practical training programme for 54 women and youths on agroecology, organic farming and sustainable agricultural practices.
The training, held on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Conference Hall of TIC Aba, was organised by the Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) in collaboration with the Centre.

The programme focused on equipping participants with practical knowledge and skills to adopt environmentally friendly farming methods, improve soil health, reduce inappropriate use of synthetic agricultural chemicals and promote sustainable agricultural production.
During the training, facilitators took participants through practical methods of producing organic manure from locally available materials, as well as the preparation and use of natural pesticides for controlling agricultural pests.
The participants were also sensitised to the potential effects of excessive or inappropriate use of agricultural chemicals on farmers, consumers and the environment.
The facilitators stressed the need for farmers to protect their farmlands and maintain healthy soils, noting that soil fertility remains fundamental to sustainable and productive agriculture.
The training further highlighted the importance of cooperative societies in helping farmers gain easier access to agricultural information, inputs, loans and markets.

Women and youths were encouraged to take advantage of opportunities in agriculture and entrepreneurship as a means of improving their livelihoods and contributing to economic development.
The programme was highly interactive, with participants actively engaging in discussions and practical demonstrations.
In her closing remarks, the Centre Manager/Assistant Director, TIC Aba, Mrs Margaret Odinwankpa, appreciated the facilitators for their time, commitment and valuable contributions to the success of the training.
Odinwankpa urged the participants to translate the knowledge acquired into improved productivity, professionalism, efficiency and service delivery, stressing that the impact of the training should go beyond the acquisition of knowledge.
The training, which commenced at 9:00 a.m., ended at about 3:00 p.m., after which participants took a group photograph to mark the conclusion of the programme.
