The outgoing Registrar of the <entity>[“organization”,”Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board”,”Nigeria”]</entity> (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, has formally handed over the leadership of the examination body to Prof. Segun Aina, bringing to an end a decade-long tenure marked by sweeping reforms, technological innovation and institutional transformation.

Speaking at the handover ceremony held at JAMB’s National Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, on Friday, Oloyede expressed gratitude to God, successive administrations, staff, stakeholders and millions of candidates for their support throughout his ten years in office. He described the achievements recorded during his tenure as the product of collective effort rather than individual accomplishment.

The outgoing Registrar acknowledged the roles played by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, and several governors, institutional partners and staff in advancing JAMB’s reforms.

Reflecting on his stewardship, Oloyede said his administration was built on five cardinal principles—welfare, discipline, technology, transparency and networking—which guided the Board’s transformation over the past decade.

He highlighted several staff welfare initiatives, including promotions, improved working conditions, over ₦8 billion committed to retirement savings, retirement benefits ranging from ₦3 million to ₦10 million, the introduction of a 13th-month salary, enhanced examination duty incentives and medical support for employees. He also noted that the Board reduced the cost of UTME application by 30 per cent and expanded support for candidates with special needs.

On institutional reforms, Oloyede said JAMB strengthened discipline by prosecuting staff accused of misconduct while deploying technology to improve the integrity of examinations. He listed the expansion of Computer-Based Testing (CBT), the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), biometric verification, CCTV monitoring, digital payment systems and other digital innovations as major milestones achieved under his leadership.

He added that strategic partnerships with security agencies, tertiary institutions, regulatory bodies, the National Identity Management Commission, private CBT operators and professional associations significantly enhanced the Board’s operations and service delivery.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, officially assumed office, pledging to consolidate the Board’s achievements in safeguarding the credibility of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Speaking at the handover ceremony, Aina assured stakeholders that his administration would build on the solid foundation laid by Oloyede while sustaining public confidence in JAMB’s examination and admission systems.

He also expressed his determination to deepen technological innovation and strengthen transparency in Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process. Aina pledged to consolidate on the Board’s achievements, assuring Nigerians that the credibility of the UTME and the transparency of the admission process would remain paramount under his leadership.

The new Registrar further stated that his administration would preserve JAMB’s culture of innovation and accountability while working closely with stakeholders to improve service delivery and uphold global best practices in tertiary admissions.

Earlier, Oloyede expressed confidence in Aina’s ability to lead the Board to greater heights, describing him as a capable successor whose ICT expertise and youthful energy would further strengthen JAMB. He urged all stakeholders to support the new Registrar, stressing that “there is no success without a successor.”
