Stakeholders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Umunneochi Local Government Area have dismissed allegations circulating on social media and some online platforms claiming that the party’s primary election in the area was disrupted or failed to hold.
Reacting to the reports, party members described the allegations as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to undermine the credibility of a process they insist was conducted successfully and peacefully.
According to party sources, the primary election was held as scheduled, with delegates participating in the exercise and winners emerging across the various contests. They maintained that the outcome reflected the will of party members and that no amount of misinformation or blackmail would alter the democratic choices made by delegates.
The stakeholders particularly defended Hon. Chief Ikechukwu Chikadibia Moses, describing him as a committed party leader who demonstrated fairness and inclusiveness throughout the process. They noted that, as the party chairman in Umunneochi, he provided equal opportunities for all aspirants to engage in the electoral process without discrimination.
Speaking on the controversy, party faithful accused some dissatisfied individuals of resorting to media campaigns after failing to achieve their desired outcomes through the democratic process.
They further argued that hiding behind anonymous publications and what they termed “cheap propaganda” should be viewed as an act of political cowardice rather than genuine concern for democracy.
“The primary election went well, delegates voted, and winners emerged. The process reflected the collective will of NDC members in Umunneochi. Attempts to discredit the exercise are nothing more than efforts to sow confusion and disunity within the party,” a stakeholder stated.
The party leaders called on members and supporters to remain united and focused on strengthening the NDC ahead of future political engagements, while urging the public to disregard what they described as unfounded allegations intended to tarnish the image of the party and its leadership.
They reaffirmed their confidence in the leadership of Hon. Chief Ikechukwu Chikadibia Moses and pledged continued support for the party’s democratic structures and processes. This version reads like a conventional news report while presenting the counter-position to the allegations.
