The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a nationwide public alert warning Nigerians against the purchase, sale and use of an unregistered menopause supplement, Menofix Capsules, citing potential health risks and ordering its immediate removal from the market.

In a statement, the agency said the product, marketed by PureEve as a hormone-free herbal and multivitamin supplement for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause, is not registered with NAFDAC despite being widely promoted and sold through online platforms and retail outlets across the country.

According to the agency, the alert followed a complaint over the product’s marketing and distribution, as well as reports linking some of its ingredients to possible liver-related adverse effects.

Following an investigation, NAFDAC confirmed that Menofix Capsules has never been registered by the agency and is therefore not authorised for sale, distribution or use in Nigeria.

The regulator, however, clarified that the unregistered product should not be confused with Menofix Herbal Capsule (NAFDAC Registration No. A7-103321L) and Menofix Powder, both of which are duly registered and approved for use in the country.

To prevent further circulation of the product, NAFDAC said it has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to intensify market surveillance and immediately remove Menofix Capsules from stores and distribution channels nationwide.

The agency urged distributors, retailers, healthcare providers and consumers to refrain from stocking, selling or using the product. It also advised anyone currently in possession of Menofix Capsules to discontinue its use and surrender any remaining stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Consumers who have used the product and experienced adverse reactions were encouraged to seek prompt medical attention and report such incidents through NAFDAC’s official pharmacovigilance reporting channels.

NAFDAC said the alert is part of its ongoing efforts to rid the Nigerian market of unregistered and potentially harmful medicines while strengthening public health and consumer safety.
