Member Representing Isuikwuato/ Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon. Amobi Ogah has accused some Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of deliberately obtaining waivers not to advertise job vacancies in order to engage in racketeering and fraudulent activities.
Hon Ogah, while speaking, as the management of Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) appeared before the house of Representatives, Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) ad-hoc committee, investigating alleged job racketeering and mismanagement of IPPIS, said most Nigerians have been deprived of good job opportunities as a result of waiver which, according to him is a personal Arrangements by the MDAs.
In his words, “why refusing to comply with the set up rules to advertise recruitment in respect to the rights of the applicants…
“When you keep requesting for waiver on the advertisement, that means something is wrong somewhere and that is the problem we are facing as a nation.
” I think, we have to come to the time of doing things right, so that those who do not have “people” will be able to get jobs; because during this waiver, they engage in their personal arrangements to deprive good Nigerians opportunity of getting jobs”.
Ogahs position followed the revelation by the acting Director General of the ECN, Joseph Sunday, that the agency employed 214 staff in 2019 without advertisements, saying they obtained waivers’ certificates from the Federal Character Commission to carry out the employment.
The ECN boss told the committee that agency got approval for two batches of recruitments comprising 180 and 34, totalling 214, adding that the agency sought waivers not to advertise the vacancies to avoid being overwhelmed by applicants.
