Chairman House Committee on HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Malaria Control, Hon Amobi Godwin Ogah has called for better collaboration between stakeholders to achieve the goal of malaria elimination in Nigeria.
Hon Ogah made the call at the National Assembly/National Malaria Elimination Program (NMEP) National Malaria Retreat held in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

The retreat, which holds from July 31 to August 1, 2025, aims to galvanize malaria response in Nigeria and boost the goal of eliminating malaria in the country by 2030.
Rt. Hon. Ogah while declaring the retreat open, emphasizing the need for collective action to combat malaria emphasized the need for mutual collaboration and engagement with the Committee on program conceptualization and formulation.
He commended Dr. Nnenna Ogbulafor, National Coordinator, NMEP, her team, and partners for convening the retreat.

Hon Ogah expressed optimism about the potential for better collaboration with the new leadership at NMEP, which will build synergy and galvanize malaria response in Nigeria.
According to him “Nigeria faces huge gaps as a result of the dwindling support from donor agency and partners, which makes it imperative to build conversations that will lead to actionable strategies and enforce domestic resource mobilization to fill the gaps and to reinvest, reimagine, and reignite malaria elimination in our country.”
“We are eager to change the narrative and make Nigeria and Nigerians reap the benefits of Universal Health Care in our country.”

He also stressed the importance of domestic resource mobilization to fill these gaps and reignite malaria elimination efforts in the country.
The retreat will focus on addressing the huge gaps in malaria control and elimination in Nigeria, particularly in the face of dwindling support from donor agencies and partners.
