Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has organised the 3rd edition of the ‘Job Fair’ for unemployed graduates in the state as part of efforts to harness available job opportunities and reduce unemployment in Lagos.
Speaking at the event with the theme “Walk Next to Your Dream Job”, held on Tuesday at the Secretariat, Alausa, the State Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon.(Mrs) Yetunde Arobieke, said the employment programme is a strategy to fast-track the meeting of job seekers and employers.
The Commissioner emphasised that employment is a two-way process, stressing that on one hand, the job seekers need to make themselves attractive to the employers, while on the other hand employers put in a lot of effort to ensure that they find the best and most suitable candidates among available job seekers.
In her words, “The Job Fair is expected to open several doors of opportunities for many job seekers to choose which organisation they would like to start their career. It is also an avenue for many employers of labour to choose the best talents among available pool whom they feel would not only be an asset, but committed to the realisation of the organisation’s set goals”.
Hon Mrs Yetunde arobieke noted the theme of this year’s Job fair ‘Walk Next to Your Dream Job’ was chosen in recognition of the fact that the present administration of Mr. Bababjide Sanwo-Olu is committed to building a vibrant economy, She said the programme is a continuous process because the State Government is determined to provide an enabling environment for businesses to flourish while reducing unemployment in the state.
The Commissioner reminded participants that some youths have been employed through the Graduate Internship placement programme of the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu led administration in a bid to expose them to the labour market.
“Let me also assure all the stakeholders of the commitment of the state government to work with all interested groups towards achieving the overall policy thrust of wealth generation and employment strategies for sustainable economic growth of the State”, she asserted.
