Veritas University Celebrates 13th Convocation, Honours Distinguished Nigerians
Abuja, Nigeria – November 10, 2024 — Veritas University, Abuja, celebrated its 13th convocation ceremony on November 9, 2024, marking a historic milestone with the graduation of 795 students. Founded in 2007, Veritas continues to contribute to Nigeria’s academic and moral landscape by fostering academic and professional excellence. Among the graduates this year, 56 students earned First Class honors, underscoring the university’s commitment to nurturing leaders.
The convocation ceremony also featured the conferment of honorary doctorates on notable individuals for their contributions to society. This year’s honorees included Most Rev. Dr. Alaba Job, Archbishop Emeritus of the Ibadan Diocese; Most Rev. Dr. Anthony C.V. Obinna, Archbishop Emeritus of Owerri; and HRM Prof. Epiphany Azinge, Asagba of Asaba Kingdom.
Dr. Kola Adesina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, was one of the honorary degree recipients. An accomplished businessman and passionate advocate for sustainable development, Dr. Adesina has played a leading role in advancing energy infrastructure across Africa. Under his leadership, Sahara Power Group has made significant strides in delivering reliable and affordable electricity to millions. Dr. Adesina is also known for his commitment to corporate social responsibility, focusing on initiatives that empower local communities and advance educational opportunities for African youth.
In his valedictory speech, Dr. Adesina expressed deep gratitude for the honorary degree and reflected on his journey, acknowledging the profound influence of his colleagues and partners at Sahara Group. He extended appreciation to Tope Shonubi, Ade Odunsi, Wale Ajibade, and Moroti Adedoyin-Adeyinka for their support, highlighting the importance of collaboration and mentorship in achieving success.
Addressing the graduating class, Dr. Adesina shared words of inspiration, emphasizing the role of resilience, curiosity, and purpose-driven leadership in shaping their futures. “Each obstacle you encounter is an opportunity to learn, to grow, and to make an impact,” he said. “Let your passion for discovery be your guide, and embrace the questions that drive meaningful change.”
His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, Bishop of Sokoto and Pro-Chancellor of Veritas University, also addressed the assembly. He urged graduates to embody the values of integrity and dedication as they embark on their careers, emphasizing that education is a powerful tool for societal transformation. Vice Chancellor Rev. Fr. Prof. Hyacinth E. Ichoku echoed these sentiments, lauding the graduates for their hard work and resilience.
The convocation underscored Veritas University’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with both knowledge and moral clarity to make a positive impact in Nigeria and beyond.
