A fire broke out on Sunday at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, triggering an emergency response by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

FAAN confirmed the incident in a statement posted on its official X account, saying its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was immediately deployed to contain the blaze.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) wishes to inform the public that a fire incident has occurred at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos,” the Authority said.

It added that firefighters were working to bring the situation under control.

“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the statement read.

FAAN assured the public that no casualties or fatalities had been recorded.

“There have been no reported casualties or loss of life,” the Authority stated.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, while it remains unclear whether flight operations at the airport have been affected.

FAAN said it would provide further updates as more information becomes available.

The Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Nigeria’s busiest aviation gateway, handles thousands of domestic and international passengers daily. Sunday’s incident has raised concern among travellers and airport users as emergency responders continue efforts to fully extinguish the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
