The Nigeria Federal Capital Territory Administration FCTA, on Thursday hinted that bicycle lanes will be constructed in the Federal Capital city to ease Transportation and also encourage reduction of carbon emissions around the nations capital .

FCT Transportation Secretary Abdullahi Candido gave the hint during the 2022 end of year media briefing in Abuja.

According to Candido, introducing bicycles into the transportation system in Abuja will go a long way in decongesting the city of vehicular traffic adding that it will also promote a very healthy populace as a result of the physical exercise involved in cycling .

Speaking on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit Project, the secretary said the administration took delivery of 12 numbers Diesel Multiple units rolling stock and other depot equipment, including rescue crane and flat wagon .

In his words ” with these facilities, we are ready to commence operations between the metro station in the central business district to Idu, Airport, and from Idu to kubwa when the rehabilitation work on the vandalised portions of the rail tracks are completed

” In preparation for the resumption of operations, measures are being put in place to ensure the security of the entire length of the rail tracks and the train terminal”
