Former , the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 Nasarawa State election, has officially defected to the (APC).
Ombugadu, popularly known as Davematics, resigned his membership of the in a letter dated 28 February 2026 and addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ikka Wangibi Ward in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area. His defection follows weeks of speculation about his political future.
In the closely contested 2023 governorship election, Ombugadu emerged as the PDP flagbearer and mounted a strong challenge against the incumbent administration, significantly reshaping the political landscape in the state.
Following his move to the APC, Ombugadu has declared his intention to contest the Nasarawa North Senatorial District seat in 2027. The district is currently represented in the Senate by .
His defection is expected to further alter political alignments in Nasarawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
