In his first international assignment on behalf of the ruling All Progressives Congress [APC], the newly elected Deputy National Chairman [South] Dr. Ben Nwoye, participated in the National Convention of the Republic of Burundi’s ruling party, the National Council for the Defense of Democracy–Forces for the Defense of Democracy [CNDD-FDD], in capital city, Gitega, on Sunday.

In a statement signed by Dr. Kingsman Chikelu, Special Adviser to the Deputy National Chairman [South] on Medical and Diaspora, and made available to journalists on Sunday, it was revealed that Dr. Nwoye was attending the Convention as a representative of Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, in a demonstration of solidarity, shared democratic values, and strengthened inter-party relations across the African continent.

Dr. Chikelu, who accompanied Dr. Nwoye on the trip, narrated that the Deputy National Chairman [South], gave a goodwill message at the event, wherein he congratulated His Excellency, President Évariste Ndayishimiye, president of Burundi, on the renewal of his mandate by the ruling party, describing the endorsement as a testament to the confidence reposed in the President’s leadership and vision for the people of Burundi.

Dr. Nwoye further encouraged President Ndayishimiye to continue to deepen democratic governance, promote unity, and consolidate developmental strides in Burundi, noting that the responsibilities of leadership at this level extend beyond national borders, particularly in his capacity as Chairman of the African Union, where expectations remain high for progressive, inclusive, and forward-looking leadership across Africa.

He emphasized the importance of African leaders working collaboratively to address shared challenges, including economic development, healthcare access, climate change, and regional security. According to him, “political parties on the continent must continue to serve as platforms for policy innovation, people-centered governance, and sustainable development.”
