The Abia State Police Command has announced the successful identification and destruction of a suspected criminal camp located in Umuobasi Forest, Umunneochi Local Government Area, as part of its sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the operation was carried out on June 28, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit in collaboration with the local security outfit in Umuobasi.

The operation led to the destruction of the suspected criminal camps, effectively disrupting criminal activities within the forest. The Police disclosed that surveillance and monitoring of the area are continuing to prevent any attempt by criminal elements to regroup.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that there is no safe haven for criminals anywhere in the state.

He stressed that the Police would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing crime, dismantling criminal hideouts, and bringing offenders to justice in line with its constitutional mandate.

The Police Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and support ongoing security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines.

The Command reiterated that effective collaboration between security agencies and members of the public remains essential to sustaining peace and security across Abia State.
