Zenith Bank Plc has officially launched its subsidiary in Côte d’Ivoire, marking a significant step in its expansion across West Africa and entry into the Francophone market.

The new subsidiary, Zenith Bank Côte d’Ivoire, commenced operations after securing regulatory approval from the country’s Ministry of Finance and Budget in December 2025. The bank will operate under the supervision of the West African Monetary Union Banking Commission, with its headquarters located in Abidjan.

The official launch, held on April 29, 2026, attracted top government officials, financial regulators from Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as key business leaders. The event underscored growing economic cooperation between Anglophone and Francophone countries in the region.

Group Managing Director and CEO, Adaora Umeoji, described the expansion as a strategic milestone in the bank’s ambition to become a leading pan-African financial institution. According to her, the new subsidiary will enhance access to Francophone markets and strengthen the bank’s role in connecting African businesses to global opportunities.

The subsidiary will focus on corporate banking, trade finance, and structured financial solutions aimed at supporting businesses operating within Africa and beyond.

Leading the new operation is Managing Director and CEO, Cédric Tano, who brings over 20 years of banking experience. He said the bank intends to combine global best practices with local expertise to drive innovation, support enterprises, and contribute to economic growth in Côte d’Ivoire and the wider region.

The expansion aligns with Zenith Bank’s broader strategy to deepen its footprint across Africa, particularly in Francophone markets. Plans are also underway to extend operations into Central Africa, including Cameroon.

Industry analysts say the move comes at a time of sustained growth in Côte d’Ivoire’s banking sector, positioning the country as an attractive hub for regional and international financial institutions seeking opportunities in West Africa.
