Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala named as WTO boss as she secures landslide victory winning 104 out of 164 votes earlier today.
Nigeria remains in the news as Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emerges as WTO director-general. I hope we all know that this means that we simply have to become a major trading nation as it will be eternally embarrassing for a nation that has produced the head of the world trading body not to be a major international exporter.
Over the last two days, South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in, called several leaders to remind them how many jobs South Korea has created abroad. He was particularly keen to court nations like the Czech Republic, where Hyundai built a $1.2bn automobile factory in 2008 and Slovakia, where the Kia Motors built a €1bn plant in 2006.
This time around, Nigeria got away with it as they opted for Dr Okonjo-Iweala ahead of South Korea’s trade minister Yoo Myung-hee.
