The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is reviewing its Public-Private Engagement and Partnerships (PPEP) framework to improve basic education delivery in Nigeria.
The review process, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), aims to strengthen partnerships with public agencies and private entities to ensure all Nigerian children have access to quality basic education.
The Executive Secretary of UBEC, Aisha Garba, emphasized the importance of partnerships in driving educational reform. The review process will develop a robust and inclusive framework for public-private engagement and partnerships, providing clear guidelines for engaging government agencies, corporate organizations, development partners, and civil society groups.
The meeting, attended by experts and top officials, aims to explore experiences in e-Public Private Partnerships, develop and refine the UBEC-PPEP framework, identify priority areas, and ensure alignment with national education policies.
Garba also pledged to enhance basic education delivery, emphasizing education as a universal right and highlighting challenges such as low learning outcomes, poor completion rates, and limited access to higher education. She outlined strategies to address these issues, including leveraging partnerships, deploying targeted interventions, and integrating technology.
The review process seeks to address Nigeria’s high number of out-of-school children, estimated at 17 million, and improve education outcomes.
