Two Nigerian women have been arrested by railway police in Delhi, India, after authorities allegedly recovered 2.28 kilogrammes of cocaine estimated to be worth about Rs20 crore, approximately N380 million.

The suspects were identified as 43-year-old Chikanso James and 41-year-old Happiness Okoye.

According to The New Indian Express, the women were arrested during a patrol operation on Platform One of Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station.

Police said the suspects attracted the attention of officers because of their suspicious behaviour, prompting a search under the provisions of India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

During the search, officers allegedly recovered 11 packets containing suspected cocaine from James.

The substance was subsequently examined by members of the crime team and forensic experts, who confirmed that it was cocaine, according to the police.

Investigators alleged that the seized drugs were connected to an interstate trafficking network operating between Mumbai and the Delhi-NCR region.

Police said James told investigators that the consignment had been collected from Vikaspuri.

Authorities said investigations were continuing to identify other members of the alleged trafficking network and trace its financial and supply channels.

Following their arrest, James was remanded in police custody, while Okoye was placed in judicial custody as investigations continue.
