The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) have joined forces to enhance the skills of civil servants, ensuring they are equipped to tackle the country’s evolving needs.
The partnership was announced during a courtesy visit by PSIN officials to TETFund’s headquarters in Abuja, led by PSIN’s Administrator and Chief Executive, Barr. Imeh Okon.
TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc. Sonny Echono, emphasized the need for public servants to be future-ready, citing the challenges of adapting to a fast-paced and disruptive environment.
“TETFund has consistently prioritized staff training and capacity development as a core strategy for institutional excellence,” Echono said. “We have invested heavily in our personnel, resulting in a vibrant, highly qualified workforce that generates innovative ideas and ensures informed decision-making.”
The partnership aims to address the public service’s struggle to transition from routine administration to becoming an instrument for rapid economic and societal development.
Key areas of focus include continuous professional development programs, compliance training, pre-retirement workshops, leadership development, and institutional governance.
PSIN proposes introducing new frameworks, including SMART-P, LEAD-P, and an induction program, to enhance professionalism and leadership in the civil service. The institute also plans to strengthen linkages between universities and the public service, promoting research-informed policy development and proactive governance.
“We want PSIN to be your first port of call when it comes to capacity building,” Okon said. “Beyond traditional training programs, we are introducing new frameworks to equip civil servants with essential skills for effective service delivery.”
The partnership is expected to enhance Nigeria’s public sector capacity building, promoting economic growth and development. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is being considered to formalize the partnership between PSIN and TETFund.
