Mia Mottley Endorses GUBA Awards as Symbol of Africa–Caribbean Unity
An unforgettable moment was recorded when the visionary leader, Prime Minister of Barbados, Hon. Mia Amor Mottley, offered her warm blessings to the Grow Unite Build Africa (GUBA) Awards.
During the exchange, she reiterated a principle that has become synonymous with her global leadership:
“Leadership is not about titles or positions but impact, influence, and inspiration.”
The conversation touched on the shared vision of deepening ties between Africa and the Caribbean. Prime Minister Mottley, whose voice has resonated strongly across international platforms, emphasised her commitment to strengthening bonds of trade, culture, and collaboration between both regions. With a smile, she acknowledged she was already well aware of the strides GUBA has made in honouring excellence within the African diaspora.
Founded in 2009 by Dentaa Amoateng MBE, GUBA has become a prestigious awards platform that celebrates and recognises the achievements of Africans and people of African heritage across the globe. The initiative has highlighted the invaluable role of the diaspora in building bridges between continents, showcasing African excellence on an international stage.
The connection between Ghana, where GUBA was founded, and Barbados, home to Prime Minister Mottley, carries profound historic symbolism. Ghana has positioned itself as the gateway for Africans in the diaspora, especially through initiatives like the “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return.” Barbados, under Mottley’s leadership, has become a strong voice calling for closer Afro-Caribbean relations, emphasising the shared destiny of people linked by history, resilience, and culture.
Prime Minister Mottley’s embrace of GUBA represents more than an endorsement; it is a call to action for deeper engagement between Africa and the Caribbean. It signals a powerful alignment of purpose—one that champions unity, identity, and collective progress across the Atlantic.

As GUBA prepares to celebrate its next edition, the endorsement from one of the most influential leaders in the Caribbean strengthens its role as a bridge between nations, generations, and cultures.
