Amidst insinuations and speculations about the Nigeria President’s whereabout amd state of health, the presidency has come out to state in clear terms that President Bola Tinubu is in good health, working, and heading home soon from france where he is having the concluding part of annual vacation.
In a statement on Sunday evening on his verified X handle, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President is hale and hearty and has been on an annual working vacation, one he is perfectly entitled to as a worker.
Onanuga said that in the digital age, the President does not have to be physically in Abuja to do the job Nigerians elected him to do in 2023.
Contrary to insinuations that the President is just lazying away in Europe, The statement pointed to the President’s schedule abroad, which included meetings with investors in France. It also cited his role in facilitating a $7 billion deep-sea port at Ogun Waterside, an initiative of the Ogun State Government.
On the Noise about the United Nations General Assembly attendance in Mew York, Onanuga noted that Tinubu was not the only prominent African leader missing from the UN General Assembly in New York. South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa and Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el-Sisi also stayed away, he said, and neither country raised an alarm. Tinubu, by contrast, announced his vacation and sent his Vice President to represent Nigeria.
Onanuga also responded to the NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi, accusing him of feigning ignorance of the President’s whereabouts and echoing what he called a “puerile” question from his followers on X
According to Onanuga, The President will return this week to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary. He will also attend the Lagos premiere of a film honouring MKO Abiola, whom Onanuga described as the martyr of the democracy Nigerians enjoy today.
