PFIPC Probe: Reps Declare Self-Styled DG’s Appointment Letter Fake
The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the alleged operations of the disputed Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by the council’s self-styled Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, to be fake.
The committee’s Chairman, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, made the disclosure on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigative hearing in Abuja.
Gagdi said the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who appeared before the panel for the second time, confirmed that the appointment letter and other documents submitted by Adeyemi were not authentic.
“It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, confirmed by different agencies, and the Act presented to the Head of Service was equally fake, forged by the DG; it was established,” Gagdi said.
Walson-Jack appeared before the committee in compliance with its summons to make her final submissions on the matter.
Also present at the hearing were Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, representing the Inspector-General of Police.
Adeyemi, however, failed to appear before the panel despite an earlier directive ordering the Inspector-General of Police to produce him within 48 hours.
The committee had, on Monday, described the establishment and operation of the purported council as a serious breach of due process and insisted that Adeyemi’s appearance was necessary to explain how the body allegedly secured official recognition and processed government correspondence.
The lawmakers said the investigation would continue as they seek to establish the legality of the council’s operations and the authenticity of the documents it relied upon.
