In the past month, three separate incidents at Nigerian airports have raised deep questions about justice, equality, and the rule of law in our country. On the surface, these cases may seem like isolated breaches of airport regulations. But a closer look reveals something far more troubling: the blatant double standard between how the rich and influential are treated versus ordinary citizens.
The Three Incidents
1.Senator Adams Oshiomhole – Former Governor of Edo State and a ranking senator – was involved in a security breach at the airport. Yet, after the incident, he simply collected his belongings and went home to his comfortable bed in Auchi.
2.Chief Alhaji Omo’Oba Ayinde, “Ultimate K1” – A celebrated entertainer – also breached airport regulations in Abuja. He too was allowed to walk free, returning to his luxurious home in Lagos to enjoy a glass of his 60-year-old whisky.
3.Queen Comfort – A young, beautiful lady from Akwa Ibom – allegedly stopped a flight on Ibom Air in Lagos. Unlike the other two, she was arrested, humiliated, and sent straight to Kirikiri Prison to “cool off” alongside hardened criminals.
One Law for the Rich, Another for the Poor
The facts are glaring. All three individuals allegedly committed similar offences. But while two high-profile figures walked free without so much as a night in detention, Queen Comfort – unknown, without political clout or celebrity status – was harshly punished.
Why is this so? Is the law in Nigeria designed only to protect the privileged, while crushing those without influence? Are our law enforcement agencies truly impartial, or do they bow to status and connections?
The Principle of Equal Justice
Justice must be blind – not blinded by money or power. If a senator and a music legend can breach airport security and face no jail time, then an ordinary citizen accused of the same act must be given the same treatment.
Anything less is not law enforcement – it is oppression.
The Human Cost
While Oshiomhole and K1 enjoy the comfort of their homes, Queen Comfort is languishing in prison, exposed to a harsh environment, away from her family, dignity stripped. Her case has been reduced to social media gossip, but behind the headlines is a real human being whose life is being upended by injustice.
A Call to Action
We, as Nigerians, must demand fairness. If Nigeria truly wishes to call itself a democratic society, the rule of law must be applied equally.
Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo (FK), President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT) – the world is watching. The people are watching. Release Queen Comfort now. Give her the same justice that was so easily handed to the rich and powerful.
Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Nigeria cannot prosper when it operates with two sets of laws – one for the powerful, another for the powerless.
Free Queen Comfort. Justice for all, or justice for none.
