The Federal Government has designated the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna, as the Coordinating Secretariat for the Accelerated Teacher Professionalisation Pathway (ATPP), a major intervention aimed at addressing qualification gaps among serving teachers across Nigeria.
The initiative, championed by the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, is expected to provide a structured pathway for about 250,000 serving teachers to acquire professional teaching qualifications without being removed from the classroom.
Under the arrangement, NTI, led by its Director and Chief Executive, Prof. Sadiya Sani Daura, will coordinate the implementation of the programme in collaboration with key agencies within the education sector.
The participating institutions include the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Federal Ministry of Education, among others.
