The Nigeria Police Force will celebrate 70 years of women in policing from December 3 to 4, 2025, honoring seven decades of courage, resilience, and service since the first cohort of policewomen was enlisted in 1955.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun will join serving and retired female officers at the commemorative events, which spotlight the pivotal role women have played in strengthening law enforcement and building community trust nationwide.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, IGP Kayode Egbetokun while Commending the impact of women on operational effectiveness and the Force’s public image said women officers’ dedication and compassion remain integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria.
In his words, ” Over the years, female personnel have distinguished themselves across administration, investigations, tactical operations, and command leadership—embodying integrity, empathy, and excellence, and helping redefine policing with purpose.”
Planned activities for the commemoration include a national lecture, historical exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme, underscoring the IGP’s commitment to inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development for women in the Force.
The Nigeria Police Force expressed gratitude to all female officers, past and present, whose courage and professionalism continue to inspire the institution and the nation.
