Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, NIDO, has lamented on the inadequate passport processing centres which most of them said they are subjected to travel to other countries to obtain.
Chairman NIDO UK, Barr Chibuzor Ubochi made this known when he led a team to pay a visit to the Global Coordinator of the Association of Good Governance Network, Amb. Dr. Hussaini Coomassie in his Abuja home.
According to the team, getting more passport issuing centres in Africa for now, at least 2 centres in each Region will ease movement of Nigerians who covers thousands of kilometers to procure their Nigerian passports.
They pleaded with the government to include the following African countries as passport processing centres of which they note that it has large number of Nigerians which can also serve some neighbouring countries; South Africa, Zambia, Gabon, Egypt, Sudan, Ghana, Senegal and Cote D’ivoire.
Responding to their plea, Amb. Coomassie promised to follow up their matter with the members of the National Assembly to ensure speedy compliance.
“I remember in 2017 I was the one that pressurised CGI BABANDEDE to have urgently dispatched Immigration officers Georgia for capturing of about 2000 NIGERIANS that were stranded then, currently the continent has only one processing centre for the entire Continent, so there is need to save Nigerians from such hazardous journey to Nairobi Kenya to capture their passports”.
Other discussions during the meeting includes, Diaspora voting, Inauguration of NIDCOM Board, Total Participation in Government activities, unity and development of the country among others.
We will work together for better Nigeria insha ALLAH Amb Coomassie said.
