The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars of President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and 16 other presidential candidates contesting the 2027 presidential election.

The commission also displayed the particulars of the vice-presidential candidates in accordance with the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election.

Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku is flying the flag of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Obi is the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Vice President Kashim Shettima is Tinubu’s running mate, while former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, are the running mates to Atiku and Obi, respectively.

The publication, contained in Form EC9, is a statutory requirement under Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which mandates INEC to display candidates’ personal particulars within 21 days of receiving them to allow for public scrutiny.

The list of presidential candidates includes Tinubu (APC), Atiku (ADC), Obi (NDC), Senator Sandy Onor (PDP), Omoyele Sowore (AAC), Donald Duke (PRP), Okwori Ada Elizabeth Frederick (NDP), Chukwu Anita Zugwai (YPP), Rufai Adekunle Omoaje (AA), Adenuga Sunday (Boot Party), Memeh Samuel (DLA), Nwanyanwu Daniel Danerechukwu (ZLP), Okereke Sunday Chibuzor (LP), Okereke Iken Esther (NRM), Abbas-Bin Aliyu (ADP), Dikwa Suleiman Mohammed (NNPP), Adebayo Adewole Ebenezer (SDP), Seyi Makinde (APM) and Yusuf Kabiru (APP).

Notably absent from the list were former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was reportedly nominated by the Tanimu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, who had claimed to be the presidential candidate of the Accord Party. The party had earlier stated that it would not field a presidential candidate after no aspirant met the nomination deadline.

INEC also published the particulars of the vice-presidential candidates, including Shettima (APC), Amaechi (ADC), Kwankwaso (NDC), Shehu Hussaini (AA), Egbeola Olawale Mertins (YPP), Ike Chinazam (ADP), Mustapha Usman Turaki (Boot Party), Balogun Alex (DLA), Chikwuemeka Uchenna Anthony (NDP), Magashi Haruna Garba (AAC), Umaru Babangida (PDP), Konto Hajja Bintu (LP), Hassan Khalid (ZLP), Samuel Magdalene Gali (NRM), Abubakar Isah (NNPP), Buba Musa (PRP), Bugaje Usman Mohammed (SDP), Ibrahim Adamu Bala (APM) and Ofordile Peace Egobia (APP).

The published documents include candidates’ biodata, educational qualifications and other supporting credentials submitted to the commission ahead of the official commencement of presidential campaigns on August 19, 2026.

Tinubu’s Form EC9 indicates that he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Chicago State University, United States, in 1979. The form did not contain information on his primary and secondary education but stated that he participated in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) between December 1982 and November 1983. It also listed his date of birth as March 29, 1952.

Shettima’s records show that he attended Lamisula I Primary School from 1972 to 1978, obtained his West African School Certificate from Government Secondary School, Potiskum, in 1983, earned a Second Class Upper degree in Agriculture from the University of Maiduguri in 1989, and later obtained a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan.

Atiku’s documents show that he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1954, his West African School Certificate in 1961, and a Master’s degree in International Relations from Anglia Ruskin University in 2020.

Obi’s records indicate that he attended St. Augustine’s Primary School in Anambra before proceeding to Christ the King College, where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1978. He later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in 1984.

Former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke stated that he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ahmadu Bello University, while African Action Congress candidate Omoyele Sowore submitted a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Columbia University in New York.
