Dino Melaye’s Legal Victory: A Chronicle of Resilience and Justice
Senator Dino Melaye, a prominent political figure in Nigeria, recently expressed profound gratitude to God after winning the final of 12 legal cases he had battled over the past six years. His statement reflects a deep sense of victory, not only in the legal arena but also in his resolve to continue fighting for what he believes is the truth, despite enduring significant hardships.
Melaye, who has faced various charges initiated by the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), described the cases as “frivolous” attempts to silence his outspoken nature. Throughout this legal ordeal, Melaye was detained for 436 days between 2017 and 2019 and faced four assassination attempts. Yet, as he states, “Truth will always remain constant,” and he sees it as a personal mission to speak truth to power, regardless of the consequences.
His legal triumph, attributed to the dedication and expertise of his legal team, including notable names like Prof. Mike Ozekhome SAN and Ricky Tafa SAN, comes as a powerful symbol of resilience. Melaye’s ordeal showcases his refusal to surrender in the face of adversity. As he declared, “No amount of threat, arrest or humiliation will break Dino because if you speak the truth, you will die; if you lie, you will die. It is better to speak the truth and die.”
His political rival, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, plays a significant role in this legal saga. According to Melaye, Bello instigated the charges against him, but now, the tables have turned. Melaye paints a vivid picture of Bello as a “hunter” who has become the hunted, hiding from accountability and avoiding questions regarding the alleged misappropriation of N110 billion from the state coffers.
Melaye’s statement draws a sharp contrast between his own willingness to face the law and prove his innocence versus what he sees as Bello’s evasion of justice. He concludes with a call for Bello to answer for his actions and live up to the standards of good citizenship.
Citing the Scripture, particularly Psalm 124: 2-8, Melaye reflects on his journey with spiritual conviction, crediting God’s intervention for his deliverance from these challenges. He also honors the lawyers who stood by him, including those who were detained with him in 2018.
Dino Melaye’s statement underscores his unwavering commitment to justice, his faith in God, and his readiness to continue fighting for truth, no matter the cost. As the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for the 2023 Kogi State Governorship election, his victory in court strengthens his political position, but more importantly, it solidifies his narrative of a man who refuses to be silenced by intimidation.
