The Kogi state governor, Usman Ododo has restated his administration’s commitment in spreading electricity access to the rural communities in order to drive development and boost local economic activities.
He made this comment at Lokoja the state capital during the official flag off of phase one of the rural electrification project.
Access to electricity is a major challenge in the country today and most affected are those in the rural communities, a situation that has slowed down economic activities and caused a decrease in the quality of life.
This was the fate of many in the rural communities across the three senatorial districts in Kogi state, North Central Nigeria.
However, darkness in these areas will soon give way to light with the distribution of 500kva transformers to the three senatorial districts by the state government.
The initiative is a direct response to the needs and requests received from communities through the ministry of rural and energy development.
Addressing residents at the government house in Lokoja, Governor Ododo thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for creating more access to resources to serve the people.
And to the people, an appeal was made to them to protect the power equipment from vandals and ensure it benefits those at the grassroot.
As more communities begin to enjoy the provision of electricity, residents are hopeful that this gesture will translate into lasting development and reliable power supply in rural areas.
