The Federal Government has commended the Kano State Government for its sustained investment in education, describing quality teachers as the foundation for building a globally competitive education system and securing Nigeria’s future.

Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, gave the commendation during the official presentation of appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Cohort V Facilitators in Kano State.

Addressing the new teachers and education stakeholders, Dr. Alausa urged the beneficiaries to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, dedication and excellence, stressing that teachers remain the most important professionals in any society because they shape future generations.

According to him, the quality of teachers directly determines the quality of students and the nation’s development.

“You are the most important people in our society. If we have good teachers teaching Nigerian children, we will produce very good students. Please take your time, love them, nurture them and teach them well,” the Minister said.

He reminded the newly employed teachers that with the opportunity given to them comes greater responsibility, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them through quality classroom instruction and commitment to service.

The Minister praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising education, noting that Kano State’s allocation of 32 per cent of its budget to the sector demonstrates strong political will and commitment to human capital development.

He described the recruitment of nearly 9,000 teachers and facilitators, bringing the total number employed by the administration to about 16,000 within three years, as one of the most significant education interventions by any state government in recent times.

Dr. Alausa observed that while some states had not recruited teachers for decades, Kano had continued to strengthen its education workforce, describing the investment as one that would produce responsible citizens for the state and the nation.

The Minister also commended the state’s ongoing infrastructure development, including road reconstruction and the installation of solar streetlights across Kano metropolis, saying the projects align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Earlier, Dr. Alausa inspected the Tarda Smart School in Ungogo Local Government Area, where he reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding technology-driven learning nationwide.

He described smart schools as a critical component of Nigeria’s education reform agenda, noting that digital learning environments would equip learners with the skills required for the 21st-century economy.

As part of his official visit, the Minister also visited Bayero University, Kano, before commissioning the newly constructed Government Girls Secondary School, Dangwaro, aimed at expanding access to quality education for the girl-child.

Speaking at the event, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, described the presentation of appointment letters as a major milestone in the state’s education reform programme.

He said the recruitment of 4,900 permanent teachers and 3,688 BESDA facilitators reflects his administration’s commitment to ensuring every classroom is staffed with qualified and competent teachers capable of delivering quality education.

The Governor reaffirmed that education remains the cornerstone of his administration’s development agenda, adding that every child deserves access to quality teaching and a conducive learning environment.

Governor Yusuf also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for their continued partnership and support, while commending Minister Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, and development partners for their contributions to strengthening education in Kano State.

Dr. Alausa assured Nigerians that the Federal Ministry of Education would continue collaborating with state governments and development partners to improve teacher quality, expand access to modern learning facilities and accelerate reforms aimed at delivering equitable, inclusive and globally competitive education across the country.
