The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has finally given recognition to the National Convention of the Labour Party held in Nnewi, Anambra State which produced the Barrister Julius Abure led National Working Committee.

INEC’s latest position was as a result of order given to it by the Nasarawa High Court to accord exclusive recognition to Barrister Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the authentic leadership of the Labour Party.

The court presided over by His Lordship, Hon Justice Mustapha A. Ramat of the Nasarawa state division had on July 23, 2025 in a SUIT NO. NSD/LF.84/2024 in an interlocutory order directed INEC to also grant Access Code to Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim to upload the names and particulars of their nominated candidates for the bye elections and the FCT Area Council elections as scheduled by the INEC.

INEC had refused to publish the names of the nominated candidates by the Labour Party in the recently held bye-election, but it has now obeyed the order.

A source in the INEC informed our reporter that INEC chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu on Monday directed its department in charge of Election and Political Party Monitoring (EPM) to comply with the lawful order with immediate effect.

According to the source, INEC chairman also asked its legal department to comply with the order and also make appearance in the next adjourned date.

Attempt by our reporter to contacted INEC Commissioner in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, Sam Olumekun, was unsuccessful before the press time. I

It is believed that with INEC’s decuein to honour the court order, the strained relationship between it and the Labour Party leading to severance in communication will be restored immediately.
