The Republic of Chad has announced plans to abolish entry visa requirements for all African nationals, with the new policy taking effect on January 1, 2027.
Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby said the decision was aimed at strengthening African unity and promoting greater integration across the continent.
According to the President, removing visa restrictions will help make the free movement of people and goods across Africa a practical reality.
With the announcement, Chad becomes the eighth African country to adopt a blanket visa-free entry policy for citizens of other African countries.
Other countries that have introduced similar open-border policies include Benin Republic, The Gambia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya and Togo.
In May, Togo announced that African nationals holding valid passports could enter the country without obtaining visas.
The growing adoption of visa-free travel policies is seen as part of efforts to deepen regional integration, facilitate trade and investment, and promote greater movement of people across Africa.
