US Court Clears Air Peace CEO Allen Onyema of Fraud Charges, Fines Former Staff $4000
The District Court in Atlanta, Georgia has exonerated Allen Onyema, the Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, from charges of business fraud after a thorough three-year investigation involving multiple American government agencies.
The court, however, imposed a $4000 fine and probation on Ebony Mayfield, a former administrative staff of Springfield Aviation Company Inc. Mayfield had pleaded guilty to a single charge related to Letter of Credit transactions for aircraft purchases made on behalf of Air Peace. The court found no evidence of loss to any bank, refuting claims made in an indictment filed by the Attorney for the Northern District of Georgia.
A statement from Augustine Alegeh & Co., counsel to Air Peace, clarified that Mayfield had limited knowledge of the transactions and likely pleaded guilty due to the complexity of explaining several Letters of Credit during a jury trial. The firm emphasized that probation is the lowest sentence available under U.S. federal law, and dismissed media reports alleging any fraudulent activity involving $20,000.
The firm reiterated that Air Peace and its associates did not take loans or credit from American banks and affirmed that no financial institution suffered any loss in the matter. They also rejected the claim that Mayfield had been paid to commit fraud.
“Our clients maintain their innocence, stating that all actions related to the Letters of Credit were conducted in good faith with legitimate funds,” the firm noted. “All aircraft purchased were brought to Nigeria and used in Air Peace operations.”
The statement concluded that the American court’s ruling validated the position of Air Peace and its executives, reaffirming that no criminal intent or financial losses occurred in the transactions under scrutiny.
