A network of schools and around 500 pupils on the Wirral have come together to create a Eurovision Showcase to celebrate the world-renowned pop music event and pay tribute to Ukraine.
On Thursday 18th May 6.30 – 9pm 500+ pupils from Egremont Primary, Hilbre High and several other schools will put on a production at Hilbre High including 14 acts/songs from 12 schools.
Schools have been practising over the last few weeks and on the night, each guest has the chance to vote for their winner via QR code.
In a tribute to Ukraine, the event will sing the State Anthem of Ukraine as a collective with the involvement of Ukranian children invited from schools across Wirral.
The event has been organised by Egremont Primary Headteacher, Mel Eastwood, who wanted to do something to unite school children across Wirral and celebrate Eurovision in an exciting and memorable way. Mel says: ‘The event has come together very well and we cannot wait for the children to perform their songs. We’re very excited to see what glamour, sparkle and razz-matazz our pupils can include to commemorate this fun event. We’re so lucky that Liverpool is hosting Eurovision in 2023 but we’re very aware of the reasons why this is the case and we wanted to make it a special event for our pupils and our Ukrainian school communities.’
Currently more than 350 family members and friends of the pupils performing will watch the performance and vote using a unique QR code. Tickets are free to people associated with the school and there will be a raffle and refreshments with proceeds going to charity.
Another song will be performed by all the pupils participating and this is ‘World in Union’.
There is also a TIKTOK dance that is being shared by Wirral Game to the tune of the UK entry by Mae Muller and there will be an opportunity at the event for people to participate in this as well.
