The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has unveiled the time table and schedule of activities for the 2023 general election.
At the unveiling, in Abuja, the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu told newsmen that the timetable was in compliance with the new Electoral Act 2022 assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Processor Yakubu said the new time table and schedule of activities overrides the one earlier released by the commission in 2021.
INEC Chairman explained that the new electoral act stipulated that all activities concerning the election must be unveiled 360 days before the election.
He appealed to all stakeholders and political parties to abide by the new electoral act to avoid unnecessary litigations.
Prof Mahmoud also warned that any political party that failed to comply with the new act in party nominations and primaries would face the law.
The INEC chairman maintained that all other guidelines and legal framework would be presented as the Commission would continue to study the new act with other stakeholders for proper implementation..
According to the INEC Boss, Presidential and National Assembly elections will hold on February 25th 2023 while governorship and state houses of assembly will come up two weeks later.
Prof Yakubu stressed that the commission had put measures in place to ensure effective transmission of results electronically.
