Security men and Law enforcement Agents have been advised to see themselves as partners in progress rather than competitors if the war against terrorism to be a successful one.
This advise was given by The chairman of Police Service Commission Mike Okiro during a courtesy call to the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin in the defence headquarters Abuja.
Okiro who was in the company of other commissioners said the visit to the chief of Naval staff was to congratulate CNS and also to foster a better working relationship between the Police and the Nigerian Navy both in intelligence sharing and in other areas in order to curb the growing scourge of insurgents in Nigeria since the Police and the Navy have a common goal of protecting Nigeria and Nigerians.
Responding, Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin said the dispute between the Armed forces and the police sometimes is as a result of what he referred to as Hangovers from military rule noting that over the years some junior officers who are not fully aware of the need to work together among law enforcement agents usually blow minor disagreement out of proportion.
He therefore use the medium to call on the government especially heads of training institutions where military personnel are trained to include interchange courses between the police and other Armed forces so as to build that cordial relationship from the training school into the larger society.
