A non governmental Organisation has called on the Federal Government to transform and reposition the Ministry of Information in the management of data, records archives and contents in Nigeria.
President of Insitutes of Information Management(IIM) Dr Oyedokun Oyewole disclosed this at the induction ceremony in Abuja.
Dr Oyedokun said, the recent introduction of data privacy regulation is apt as this will enable curbing cyber crime, fake news, hate speech and extremism.
He said creating trust on line is a fundamental challenge and efforts must be guarded to ensure opportunities emerging in the information economy can be fully leveraged.
As one of the Honorarium of the institution,Senator Saga Gwefi said, he said the institutes in its bit to create a paradigm shift must use all within its power to reduce the abuse of the social media must endeavour to make sure proper legislative intervention should be well structured with the guide of the insitution.
Its imperative that all Government Ministries Department and Agencies (MDA’s) must comply with standards,
procedures, and specifications as it applies to data, information, records, and archives.
The theme of the day is Institutionalizing Information Management, a key for strengthening governance and reforming public relation.
