Former chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission INEC Professor Maurice Iwu has called on Nigerians especially politicians to stop paying lips services to the development of Nigeria and Nigerians if we want this nation to move forward and take its place as The true Giant of Africa.
Professor Iwu made this call in Abuja during the 2013/2014 NFONA Awards and lecture organised by City Mail Newspapers.
Professor Iwu who was the chairman of the occasion said that most of the challenges Nigeria is facing today is as a result of the selfish personal and political interest of a few people who place their interest above the collective good of the nation.
While addressing participants during the Awards and lecture ceremony Formal PDP national Chairman who was also the Special guest of Honour Okwesirieze Nwodo charged Nigerians to support the Proposed National Dialogue so as to bring to the Table our collective challenges and find a lasting solution to them. He therefore used the medium to condemn in its entirety the wanton destruction of lives and properties in some North Eastern States by the Boko Haram Sect. making it clear that no nation thrives in Chaos.
The Awards Recipients includes Dr. Alistair Soyode the CEO of BEN Television London( The Best Television Broadcasting Station in The Diaspora 2013/2014), Dr. Dalhatu Tafida Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (Outstanding Micro Finance Managing Director of the Year) Barr. Kenneth Okonkwo (the Most Outstanding Advocate of the year 2013/2014) Hon. Kabiru Turaki ( the Best performing Minister of special Duties) amongst others.
Speaking Earlier The Publisher, City Mail Newspaper Princes Anita Umewen said the Awards and lecture series was born out the Desire to appreciate Those who have laboured Tirelessly for the overall interest of the country, she therefore urged the awards recipients to do more for the interest of the country.
