Given a breakdown on how the money was spent, Hon. Melaye alleged that the money was spent within three Days after receipt, in such a manner that calls the principle of accounting to question.
“It was discovered that a total of N279,020,000 was spent on Christmas hampers alone. The maintenance of street lights, for the month of November gulped N74,203,384 and N72,356,799.85 respectively, between two companies.

“We also have GHP overhead in two places without any month in reference at N120 million and N110 million respectively. Are these not captured in the budget? We also have award to Delta State contigents, Eko 2012 games, Lagos, put at N330,740,000 and same title repeated with with varied amount of N318 million, for a total of N648 million”.
The anti-corruption group questioned the construction of Trans-Warri-Ode Itsekiri Bridge and Access road at the cost of N800,000,000, if it was not capturned in the budget of Delta state in 2012, that they had to wait for excess crude to pay.
“Then a scandalous title namely, Various Government House payment at N216,000,000. Estacode to Vienna, Austria and Los Angeles at N31,465,491. Hosting of Senior Course 35 participants of the Armed Forces Command and Staff Course, Jabi at N37,258,500″.
“Two assistance to hosting of National Health Summit cost put at N45,000,000 and N35,000,000 respectively, while the proper hosting of same event cost N40,504,000. Another title GHP overhead (O/H) different from the earlier ones with no month in reference put at N558,000,000 and O/H put at N100,000,000″.
“You have some funny titles such as printed release warrants (H) (K) and (M) put at the cost of N939,559,371.96 and N337,417,202.60 and N444,165,589 respectively. You then have a printed release warrant differently which cost is put at N1,988,308,165.58″.
“So a total of N9,424,933,907.72 was frivolously spent under 3 days leaving a balance of only N8,511,851.58”.
“The desperation to consume the said over N9billion is unparallel in the history of the University of Corruption. No tangible social amenity or infrastructure considered. This is a pattern in Delta State. We will during the week forward a proper petition to all Anti-graft agencies. Corruption in all states must stop, we will go state by state until Nigeria is rid of corruption,” he said.
