The committee of Friends of Chairman of Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal matters Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele rolled out drums to celebrate their own in highbrow Maitama area of Abuja the Federal Capital Territory following his appointment as a newest member of body of Bencher
The senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele representing Ekiti central senatorial district and chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, was appointed as a member of the prestigious Body of Benchers in Nigeria in October 2019
In a letter addressed to him by the Body of Benchers, Nigeria, dated Monday, 28th October 2019, the body acknowledged the fact that Sen. Bamidele has paid his dues as a seasoned legal practitioner and staunch advocate of the Rule of Law in Nigeria.
According to the letter of appointment signed by the secretary of the Body of Benchers, Mrs. H.A. Turaki, Senator Bamidele’s appointment was ‘sequel to the resolution by the Body of Benchers that chairmen of the National Assembly Committees on Judiciary should be made members of the Body of Benchers by virtue of the office’.
The Nigerian Body of Benchers is a professional body concerned with the admission of prospective student into the Nigerian Law School. Members of the body are called Benchers. The body also regulate the call of graduate of law school to the Nigerian Bar as well as the regulation of the legal profession in Nigeria.
To this end committee of Friends Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele thought it wise to rolled out drums to celebrate this life time achievement in colours.
The venue of the occasion charter house Maitama Abuja was filled to the capacity with who is who in the Nine Senate led by the President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan and his Deputy Senator, Ovie Omo-Agege , Minister of Trade and Investment Otunba Niyi Adebayo ,friends and well-wishers and other eminent Nigerians to grace the colourful event.
It was an evening of Encomiums and Accolades in honour of Distinguished Sen. Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, Chairman, Senate Committee on Judiciary Human Rights and Legal Matters following the Body Benchers Appointment.
In his remarks President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan used the occasion to commended the the Body of Benchers for taking the right decision in the appointment of Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele
The President of the Senate also described the chairman of Senate Committee on Judiciary , Human Rights and Legal matters as a stabilizer of the Nine Senate.
“Sen. Bamidele is one individual; one man that you can rely on. You can go to sleep when you have an understanding with him. This is one person that tries all the time to get us to be calm in whatever situation we find ourselves.
“Today, he is a pillar that we in the Senate are proud of.
Here is a man who uses soft and palatable words to achieve great things,” Lawan added. K
The Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, rejoice with Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, for the elevation as a member of the body of benchers.
Senator Ovie omo Agege highlighted the quality of the Chairman of Senate Committee on Judiciary.
“Sen. Bamidele, from the very first day he set his foot in the Senate, we knew where he stood. Once he’s with you, he’s with you indeed. His word is always his bond”.
“It is because of the way he holds himself, his very strong knowledge of the law and his moral uprightness that informed the decision from the very beginning that he would be the man to head this committee (on judiciary).
Omo-Agege said the elevation of Sen. Bamidele as a member of the body of benchers came to many professional colleagues as no surprise, stating that “as a lawyer myself, we all grew up, dreaming that someday we will get appointed into this same body of benchers.
“So, my brother, you have done us proud. What we saw in you is what those who made this decision have also seen in you. “So we are very proud of you.
Minister of Trade and Investment ,Otunba Niyi Adebayo used the occasion to pray for Senator Opeyemi Bamidele to succeed in all his drives .
In his vote of thanks , Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele expressed gratitude to God and the leadership of the nine senate for his appointment as the Chairman of Senate Committee on Judiciary Human Right And legal matters which according to him influenced his appointment into the body of Benchers.
Senator Bamidele pledged to do his best and not to disappoint the Senate and Nigeria in the discharge of his duties.
