* Set up interim structures and six Zonal Secretariats
* Commence Nationwide Mobilisation
*Holds National Retreat
More details emerged about the status of the newly launched Nigerian Intervention Movement, NIIM on Sunday, when its National Secretariat stated that the new body is not a political party but a pan Nigerian ideological mass Movement initiated to resolve the Nigerian national question and reshape the character of Nigerian politics and its leadership, once and for all ahead of the 2019 elections in Nigeria
Addressing the media at the weekend in Abuja, the Convener of Nigeria Political Summit Group, NPSG, Sir Olawale Okunniyi, who chaired the National Political Consultation that gave birth to the new Political Movement, berated what he called “the long-standing corrupt and divisive political system and practice in the country”, stating that such exploitative character of politics in the country is no longer acceptable to the emergent political leaders who came together to compare notes on the state of Nigeria, hence, the formation of the Intervention group for the country during the closedoor parley of Tuesday in Abuja.
It would be recalled that a Group of ninety leaders of thought, political activists and professionals, who are some of the best, brightest and most cerebral from diverse fields of the country’s human endeavours and social formations converged on Abuja last Tuesday to float a new political Movement for Nigeria, ahead of the 2019 elections.
“Some of the leaders of the G-90, who facilitated the formation of NIIM last Tuesday include; a former President of NBA; Dr Olisa Agbakoba SAN, a versatile Business Mogul, Rabiu Ishyaku Rabiu, Former Governor, Donald Duke, a former Presidential Candidate and Founder of Lagos Business School, Prof Pat Utomi, The Son of the first Prime Minister of Nigeria and Renowned Medical Expert, Dr Jhalil Tafawa Balewa, a Former Minister and Youth mentor, Mr Frank Nweke Jnr, Senator Ghada Abubakar, Dr Mrs Bisola Sodipo Clark, Vice President of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Isa Aremu, a renowned strategic Trainer, Dr Mrs Kemi Jorge Oyewusi, a Former President of National Council of Women Society; Hajia Ramatu Dalhatu Musa, Environmetalist – Dr. Mary Manzo of YES Nigeria, former Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC Mallam Shittu Kabir, Dr Mrs Olu Usim Wilson, a high powered delegation of the Political Commission of the organised Labour, Dr Ms Bolanle Onagoruwa, the Convener of Nigeria Political Summit Group, NPSG, who presided over the Political Consultation; Sir Olawale Okunniyi among others”
“Frankly, Nigerians are fed up with the corrupt, mercurial and divisive political system in Nigeria, which has gradually dimmed the hopes of our people in our nationhood, rendering the mass of our hardworking citizens impoverished ironically, in the midst of plenty. This is why the leaders of conscience and the leading lights in every sector of our country were compelled to converge at this critical period of our political history to organise and resolve the systemic drift and inert political leadership in our country ahead of the 2019 elections in Nigeria”
“However, we are not unaware that the generational duty placed before us, as concerned stakeholders in the Nigerian Project, can not be treated with kids gloves. This is why we have earnestly commenced mobilisation of our allies and other fraternal formations to urgently synchronize all into a formidable umbrella of the new political “Third Force” to confront the historic task of delivering the Nation’s jugular from the behemoth of wrong headed governance and divisive political system by every democratic means available to us” Okunniyi clarified
The group however averred that it does not have any immediate plan of becoming a political party but only made a strong resolve to urgently mobilise the entire country to challenge and upturn what they perceived as the prevailing ‘corrupt’ political system and practice in the country in determining, who leads Nigeria in 2019, while making it easy for the right set of people to emerge as leaders of government in the new Nigeria they aspire to create come 2019
“For Nigeria to progress and for our people to prosper within it, the revolutionary task placed before these new generation of leaders must be collectively embraced by all. To this end, we are calling on all well meaning stakeholders and leaders of conscience to rally round the noble cause and historic Initiative of the Nigerian Intervention Movement as we all can only ensure that our collective will counts and politics is no longer business and investment for a ruling clique but service and conscientious leadership, only when we stand together” Okunniyi charged
The Movement however commended Nigerians for the massive buy in and support so far received from within and outside Nigeria by the Facilitators of the Movement, especially the goodwill and inquiries from very senior citizens and top professionals, who are eager to join and support the success of the new Movement
“To this end, we wish to assure that the Movement, in succeeding weeks, shall among others, place public notices on how Nigerians can join and support this new “rescue mission” for Nigeria, open six zonal secretariats for the group operations, while considering a plan of action for a 50 Million Man March on major cities of Nigeria, including the FCT to rally support for real System Change in Nigeria” NPSG informed
