The Oyo State Government has condemned the attack on players and supporters of Shooting Stars Football Club, 3SC, by disgruntled supporters of the Ikorodu United Football Club during a successful away match between the two football clubs, at Onikan Stadium, Lagos at the weekend.
In a statement signed by the state commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. ‘Yomi Oke, the state government described the attack on the Oluyole warriors as totally unacceptable, saying that it was a turn away from the good spirits of sportsmanship in Nigeria.
He pointed out that the state government did not support the uncivilized attitude displayed against its players in Lagos.
The State Government lends its support to the express disapproval coming from different quarters of the Football world and Mr. Oke called on the Nigeria Football League, NFL, to act swiftly on necessary action to be meted out to the offending club supporters without further delays.
He affirmed that the Senator Abiola Ajimobi led administration is a strong proponent of peace and sportsmanship which has rubbed off on officials, players and supporters of the Shooting Stars Football Club.
Mr. Oke commended the players and supporters of Shooting Stars Football Club for being good ambassadors of the state in Lagos State and making the state government and its people proud during and after the match which was disrupted in the 88th minute, after 3sc equalized in the second half.
