Gov Willie Obiano has bagged a distinguished fellowship award from the Federal College of Education,(Technical), Umunze in Orumba South Council of the state.
Investiture for the award was made during the 23rd Convocation Ceremony of the college for the award of the Nigeria Certificate in Education, NCE and the Professional Diploma in Education, PDE to it graduating students.
The Fellowship Award which is the highest award from the College reserved exclusively for select personalities who have proved their mettle in their areas of engagement, was bestowed on the Governor in recognition of his laudable roles in the development of the College.
By the award, Gov Obiano has joined the league of respected Nigerians who wear the badge of honor as Fellows of the College.
The Visitor to the College and Minister of Education, Prof Adamu Adamu who was represented by the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Colleges of Education, Prof Bappa-Aliyu Muhammad while noting that the College was moving forward, evident in the increase in number of programmes it now run and her students, said it was the policy of the present administration at the center to upgrade Colleges of Education across the country to enable them effectively play their role in producing the mid-level technical manpower for the nation’s labour industry.
The Provost of the College, Prof Josephat Ogbuagu in his Convocation address said upon assumption of office, he had focused on staff development, students welfare as well as infrastructural upgrade as a roadmap towards realizing the institution’s mandate of effectively training technical, vocational and science students, urging the graduating students to be good ambassadors of the institution wherever they find themselves.
He commended Gov Obiano for his periodic interventions through which he has brought relief to the College, adding that the award was their own way of appreciating him for his friendly disposition to the institution and encouraging him to do more.
Responding, Governor Obiano thanked the College for the honour and said education for his administration, remains a critical enabler that holds the key to optimum youth development in the state.
He noted that a major achievement of the strings of investments which his administration has attracted into the state, is that it has significantly cut down the rate of unemployment in the State.
Gov Obiano urged the graduating students to take advantage of his government’s skills acquisition programmes to become entrepreneurs that would add value to the society.
2058 students who graduated from the NCE Regular, Sandwich, Continued Education Program, CEP, and Professional Diploma in Education, PDE programmes of the College between 2012 and 2016, participated in the convocation ceremony.
