As the news of the absence of President Muhammadu Buhari at the weekly Federal executive council meeting which was held today continues to trend on different news platform across the globe, information and culture minister Lai Muhammed has debunk rumours and claims making the rounds that the President is Sick.
Speaking to State House correspondent after the FEC meeting Lai Muhammed said the president was attending to other stage issues having seen, vetted and certified the Agenda for the day the President mandated his Vice Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to preside.
In his words, ” clearly when we came in this morning Mr President was not in the chamber and the Vice-President did preside over the FEC meeting understandably and that has sparked a lot of controversies and agitations in the minds of people.
“Now, I just want to make this clear; Mr President is in town; Mr President is attending to other issues; Mr President looked at the agenda, it was a very light agenda, and said that the Vice-President should preside.
“It is not unusual for the kind of interest that had been shown especially giving the fact that Mr President was away for a while on medical treatment.
“Yes, we are not surprised that the people are wondering that `is Mr President ill again?’ he is not ill; he is not sick and I’m sure that later in the day or tomorrow morning he will back in the office.
Speaking further. The former spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress said It is not unusual even if the President is hale and hearty and everything is going well for the VP to preside over the meeting of the Federal Executive Council,
Recall that President Buhari recently returned from London Where he had gone on medical vacation and spent about 49 days.
While he was away, there was wild speculations over his health condition.
Prior to yesterday’s FEC, Buhari had chaired three FEC meetings since his return from London.
Since the President’s return he has not attended to state functions outside the Villa, he had played host to a number of dignitaries who have come to greet him on his return.
The lists includes former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, Senate President, Bukola Saraki,Speaker House of Representatives,Yakubu Dogara, Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Walter Onoghen among others.
