Immediate past Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade is calling for the support of Nigerians irrespective of their states, in his quest to become the governor of Ekiti state.
He also said Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has the capacity to beat incumbent Ekiti state Governor, Dr. Fayemi Kayode, in the governorship election.
Olubolade who spoke shortly after he picked the PDP Governorship Nomination Form at the party national secretariat in Abuja and explained that he has no problems with people who would want to support him, whether they are from Ekiti state.
He said there was no basis for the insinuations making the round that the Bayelsa state government was supporting him, adding that “maybe they have read about what I did when I was Military Governor of the state and decided to support me. If that is the case, they are welcome. I welcome people from all parts of the country if they want to support me”.
Olubolade argued that his clean military records and the achievements he left behind as Governor of Bayelsa State as well as what he achieved while serving as minister qualified him to be the next governor of the state.
He explained that with his stay in government, he understands fully what the Transformation Agenda is all about, adding that it would make it easier for him to marry the duties of a governor and federal duties for the development of the state.
Emphasising that it would be a great dis-service if he did not offer himself to govern Ekiti state, Olubolade cautioned against political violence especially in the state.
He also said he would support the emergence of a consensus candidate, adding that even though the aspirants are currently meeting on the matter, the decision of the national secretariat of the party on the issue should be final.
Said he: “If consensus is being canvassed they have their point. If the party says it wants to go a particular way and someone thinks otherwise, it is better we ask such people to try and be a party men and tow the party line.
