Students of the University of Lagos, Nigeria experienced comic books in a very unique way this month in a first of it’s kind School Tour by Comic Republic!
On Friday the 18th of August 2017, Comic Republic stormed the University of Lagos in a truck complete with a Dj, a full band and some of the best creative hands of the company, as part of the activities of the University of Lagos Africarribbean Carnival!
The Company which is now in her 4th year of existence continues to disrupt the comic book scene with her unique activation plans and strategies aimed at increasing visibility for African Superheroes as icons, teaching the art of comic book making and influencing the narrative that provides a platform to make comic books more mainstream and attractive as a career form .
The Executive Officer / Head of Marketing and Communications, Comic Republic Eduvie Martin commended the University of Lagos Creative Arts department for a very well put together event which showcased brilliance in arts and culture.
“As the creative arts department turns 20, it is only apt that such a carnival was put together at this time. Seeing such talent in the University is really exciting and we are happy to be associated with such an event that showcases the beauty in culture and the talent of the students. I will like to also commend the entire faculty for including cartooning and illustration as a course under visual arts. We have already started taking in interns from the University and are committing to taking more interns into our establishment to showcase the importance of this art form.”
Dancing to the beat, the company provided books, flyers and tips to the over 2,000 students and onlookers within and outside the filled to capacity Sports centre of the campus which played host to a variety of cultural displays, drama, dance and much more.
Present at the event where several University of Lagos Alumni including comedienne Helen Paul, the Dean of the Faculty of Creative Arts , all lecturers of the Creative Arts department, the Chairman Abuja Carnival, wife to Commander Falana, British Council Lagos Theatre Festival Director, Mr Kenneth Uphopho, Alex Osho and many more dignitaries.
