The spokesman of APC presidential campaign Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN has issued this statement on behalf of the Party.
The Board of Trustess of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) says the former Executive Secretary of the Fund, Dr Abdullahi Bichi Baffa, was relieved of his appointment over his partisan political and religious activities as well as other violation of government regulations.
A statement made available to newsmen in Abuja and signed by the Chairman of the TETFund’s Board of Trustees, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, dismissed the news making the round that Baffa was sacked over his refusal to comply to the demands by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu.
“TETFund has been drawn to reported assertions in the media speculating on the reasons for which Mr president reinstated Prof. Suleiman Elias Bogoro and relieved Dr Abdullahi Bichi Baffa of his appointment as the Executive Secretary of the Fund. The Board of Trustees wishes to state as follows ;
“It is our own understanding that the sack of the Executive Secretary, Dr Baffa, has no relation to issues of any demands upon him by the Honourable Minister for Education, as the Board was at no time formally or informally notified for any interference whatsoever by the Honourable Minister for Education who has been completely supportive of the Fund in discharge of its work by allowing a free hand in the running of the Fund, even though is represented by the Permanent Secretary on the board,” the statement said in part.
The Board stated that under the law of the country, the president may hire and fire the Executive Secretary for any or no reason, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari acted legally, lawfully and rightly in “ensuring that a continuing state of violation of government regulations as to partisan engagement of public servants, the swirling allegations of nefarious engagements in the hot Kano political atmosphere and the uncontrolled publicization of religious and political ideological leanings is halted.”
